Many of the problems that arise in a group discussion are a result of members not having discussion skills. If you have a lot of experience with discussions,it is likely you will do well in a discussion group. There are certain amount of etiquette that you will need to display ,when you are into a discussion.
  1. Members must stay on topic.
  2. It is bad  etiquette to raise issues that are not related to the topic as it waste time and prevent the group from reaching a define goal.
  3. Always ask open-ended questions[that does not require a specific answer] instead of close-ended questions.
  4.  Close-ended question must be raised if the group has specific information that they need to learn.
  5. If one member interrupts another while they are speaking, it is bad  etiquette .
  6. If you have a disagreement or concern with a statement that has been made by someone else, wait until they have finished speaking before you talk.
  7. It is bad  etiquette saying something like that "idea will never work " or "your idea doesn't make any sense". These are the statements that can be damaging to the member.
  8.  A good alternative to these two statements are:"idea raises some serious issue" or "I see your point, but there are number of issue that may arise".
  9. Be polite while presenting your statements, and have good reasons for holding your opinion.
  10. It is also bad  etiquette to put down the ideas that have been presented by another person. During meeting all ideas must be considered, and no one should be ridiculed because of idea one have.
